Great Book!

I met Margie Goldsmith a few years ago at one of Jon Gindick's Harmonica Jam Camps, and knew that she was a award-winning travel writer. I also learned that she was a really good harmonica player, and an enthusiastic fan of the instrument and its best-known artists. What I didn't know was how many contemporary greats she has met and interviewed. Her new book is really well written, and while some of these interviews have been previously published in SPAH's Harmonica Happenings, even those have been edited to include additional material for which there wasn't space in the magazine. While the answers to her questions are the musicians' own, Margie has done a great job of organizing and presenting them. There's something new to learn here about every one of her interviewees (some of whom are good friends, but even as to them, I learned something new from the book), and it's not surprising that nearly all of them have the same advice for other players: To relax and breath and really feel the music through one's body. No matter if you are a beginner, or a pro who regularly plays with one or another of Margie's subjects, you will enjoy this book.

Masters Of The Harmonica

Jerry Guy 5.0 out of 5 starsInspiration and knowledge float off the pages. Each chapter introduces you to a new Harmonica Master and the journey they traveled to become a master. I really enjoyed it as I struggle to master my own playing and find myself feeling closer to each artist as they share tips and outlooks about music, life, and the paths, rewards and troubles. I’ve personally met only 3 of the subjects but feel I know a bit more about all of them. If you play I highly recommend it to help inspire you and if you don’t it may well start a little passionate fire for this small but amazing instrument!

Masters Of The Harmonica

This isn't just another book about harmonica players. "Masters Of The Harmonica" takes you right to the source, featuring interviews with some of today's greatest players. In their own words, these players offer such great insights and "golden nuggets" of wisdom. This is a great resource for new and experienced harmonica players alike, and would also serve as an excellent "textbook" for anyone teaching a beginner's harmonica class. In this book, Margie has compiled a wealth of information that will continue to be a valuable asset to harmonica players for years to come."
